CHU Sainte-Justine

The Centre de cancérologie Charles-Bruneau serves the entire population of Québec and allows close to 1,100 children with cancer to benefit from the best care available.

History

The Centre opened its doors at CHU Sainte-Justine on January 21, 1995.

As part of its ongoing fight against cancer, the Fondation Charles-Bruneau inaugurated a second pavilion on October 29, 2007. Spanning 4,000 square meters over five floors, the expansion adjacent to the existing pavilion allows the Centre to develop an integrated approach at once more effective and better adapted to children’s needs.

The impact

The Centre de cancérologie Charles-Bruneau features more research laboratories (umbilical cord blood bank, oncology pharmacy) and beds for hospitalized children. As well, the number of transplant units has doubled from six to 12.

The consolidation of medical and paramedical teams and of adjuvant therapies – art therapy, music therapy, drama therapy, etc. – also helps increase the children's chances of recovery while minimizing inconveniences related to treatment.

Since it opened in 1995, the Centre has recorded close to 180,000 outpatient visits and treatments (15,000/year);

More than 80 researchers work at the Centre de cancérologie Charles-Bruneau.
