The story of Vicky Deslauriers of the IGA – Voisin team: her chance to give back!
With less than a week to go before the start of the second edition of the Charles-Bruneau Cup presented by IGA, the IGA – Voisin team has already surpassed its fundraising goal and continues to raise money for a childhood without cancer. Here is the story of one of the team’s players, Vicky Deslauriers, who has a special reason to feel lucky to be part of this event.
Vicky’s Story
In 2008, Vicky Deslauriers’ life takes an unexpected turn. In her early twenties, just as young adulthood begins, when a thousand possibilities are open, when nothing seems impossible, she isdiagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a cancer of the lymph nodes with lymphoma in the lung.
After several months of chemotherapy and radiotherapy, her doctors announces that she is in remission for the next 5 years. Today, she is cured and in great shape, and most of all very grateful for this second chance to enjoy life!
The opportunity to give back to the cause
Full of gratitude, she is participating in the second edition of the Charles-Bruneau Cup presented by IGA with her colleagues from Sobeys. “I feel very proud to see my team and I participate in the Charles-Bruneau Cup. It’s with many small gestures that we can help make a difference,” explains Vicky.
The support of her employer
Vicky Deslauriers is also very proud to work for an employer who shares her values and takes causes like the Charles-Bruneau Foundation to heart. Already employed by Sobeys when she was ill, her employer and colleagues supported her very well during this difficult time. “I’m happy that Sobeys’ involvement and support can help give a little hope to sick children and their families,” she says.
The Voisin team
Vicky’s last words go to the children who, like her, have been or are suffering from cancer: “I want to tell the children with cancer that they are brave soldiers. In spite of the ordeal, we must continue to fight and not give up, but above all, we must keep HOPE! I would like everyone to have a second chance like I had, that’s why on September 3rd, my thoughts will be with you!
